The Mayans were right!
The End of the World is Fantasy Flights new role-playing game series featuring the end of all humanity. It’s not a “heroic people of destiny save the world from doom” scenario. No, these are “game over, man!” moments when all hope is lost. The only goal is to survive.
The End of the World: Zombie Apocalypse released late last year. We played through the End of the World on New Year’s Eve. Now, a second book in the four-part series is headed to stores. This one focuses on scenarios in which the gods (of many varieties) extinguish life as we know it. Sounds fun!
End of the World: Wrath of the Gods comes with five different scenarios for how the world might end at the hands of ancient powers. You and your friends will create characters who hope to survive. And those characters will be you. Yes, you create yourself as a character. It’s very meta.
Here are the five Wrath of the Gods scenarios:
Mayan apocalypse: They were a little late on their prediction, but yeah, the Mayans were right. Their people return alongside Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent.
Revelations: The good ol’ Bible is the source for this scenario. Four horsemen, the Rapture, you probably know the drill on this one. It’s bad. Real bad. Enjoy!
Rejected by Mother Nature: Gaia, in her infinite wisdom, realizes man is a parasite. And so, our own planet rejects us. Animals and plants turn on us.
Ragnarok arrives: The Norse myth turns out to be truthful prophecy. Midgard (where I parked my car) is doomed. The Norse gods come for a final battle against their greatest foe and we’re left to die in the process.
Cthulhu calls: H.P. Lovecraft was actually a prophet. And his visions of madness come true. The Deep Ones rise, bringing untold terror to our world. A delicious world that Cthulhu wants to devour.
The End of the World: Wrath of the Gods is expected sometime this spring. Having played the Zombie Apocalypse version, I can assure you this is one of the most unique and exciting role-playing experiences you will ever have. These games are awesome. I can’t wait.
