The year of Everything Must Be Star Wars begins.
Last week, German publisher Hans im Gluck revealed Star Wars Carcassonne at Spielwarenmesse, a tabletop expo in Nurmberg. It is, perhaps, one of the odder pairings in gaming.
Carcassonne is a classic tile laying/worker placement game, where players populate a growing world with farmers, thieves, knights, and monks. Based on pictures captured at the show, the Star Wars version includes routes to different planets from George Lucas’s galaxy far, far away. It doesn’t really look like Carcassonne, but it certainly looks like Star Wars.
Expect it in Europe this August.
Currently no one has locked in the English-language distribution rights. Z-Man Games currently publishes Carcassonne in the U.S. and is most likely to sign on to distribute more broadly.
What do you think? Are you going to buy the Star Wars version of Carcassonne?
