Master Chief is coming to a war gaming table near you.
Spartan Games is making Halo tabletop miniatures games. A relative unknown, Spartan has received the thumbs up from Microsoft and plans to release both space and ground-combat games based in the Halo universe starting this year.
If you’ve never played a miniatures war game, they can be pretty hardcore. Minis need to be painted, rulers are used – it’s a whole thing. It’s also pretty spectacular to experience if you’re up for the investment (in both time and money).

Interestingly, Halo is not a space combat video game. Other than one amazing mission in Halo: Reach, all of your combat is inside of ships or planetside. So this will truly be a new way to experience the Halo universe.
It’s unclear if there will be any narrative component to these games. However, Spartan Games Creative Director Neil Fawcett said it was hard to know which was more exciting, “invading Reach with our Covenant Fleet or assaulting ground defenses with Spartans and UNSC Marines.”
Sounds like we’ll at least be reliving the fall of Reach sometime this year.
